Fraser on Fishing: Boyle Memorial match was a big hit

Now in its eighth year the Peter Boyle Memorial six-man team event went down a storm with the anglers at Markle.

All but one attained their limit and even then by only one fish. Conditions were perfect. Management have to be complemented on the smooth and efficient running of the event.

Fishing for the Harrow B team I drew platform seven on the far side opposite the fishing lodge. I opted to go with a floating line, a fab on the point and two buzzers fished static. Casting across the breeze and letting the wind carry the flies round met with little success for at least ten minutes. I just was about to change when my line shot out into deeper water and I tightened into what I thought was a sizeable fish. Taking time to play it I netted it to settle my nerves.

Moving five platforms to my next starting point I was up in the shallows where fish were moving. Sticking with the same tactic I picked up another two and dropped one more. However, I had my limit. Other teams were catching steadily but it was the Harrow A team that were blazing the way with two fish more than 6lb and one at 5lb and one at 4lb.

They won with 18 fish for 51lb with Allandale Tarn second with 18 fish for 43lb 4oz. Fantastic sport provided by the management.
