Gales are blow to Florence

Edinburgh’s Olympic silver medallist David Florence and Englishman Rich Hounslow were second-quickest in yesterday’s C2 qualifiers at the World Canoe Slalom Championships in Bratislava, but high winds later forced organisers to abandon racing and scrap any times that had been recorded, writes LORIN McDOUGALL.

The Forth Canoe Club star and Houslow, bronze medallists last year, produced a clean run in 102.62 seconds but will have to do it all again when conditions allow.

“Right now we have no idea what will happen, but Thursday’s weather is looking no better,” admitted Hounslow last night. “It’s looking likely that racing will be rescheduled into a three-day event from Friday until Sunday, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
