Geared up for Drummond

Lothians cyclists are among the leading contenders for a share of the four-figure prize fund up for grabs at tomorrow’s Drummond Trophy, one of the longest standing fixtures on the Scottish racing calendar, writes COLIN RENTON.

The 85-mile event at Strathaven has attracted a field brimming with talent from both sides of the Border. Among the challengers are local stars Evan Oliphant (Team Raleigh), James McCallum (Rapha Condor-Sharp) and Gary Hand (Pedal Power). However, they will face a stiff test from their cross-border rivals.

The last time all three contested the event was two seasons ago, when Oliphant took the honours ahead of McCallum, who at that time was a team mate, with Hand in eighth spot.
