Golf: East get off to a flyer in Winter League’s opening clash

EAST laid down a significant marker right at the start of this season’s Fife & Lothians Golf Associations’ Winter League as they recorded a thumping away win over Mid at West Linton.

Craigmillar Park’s Alex Robertson got the home side off to a good start as he got the better of Stephen Simants from Dunbar in the top match. But the tide was soon turned East’s way and they went on to record an impressive 7.5-2.5 victory.

Musselburgh members Kenny Wright, Benn McLeod and Cameron Marr all won their matches for the visitors, showing the current strength of the Monktonhall club.

Royal Musselburgh’s Scott Cunningham also delivered a victory, while clubmate Scott Blair chipped in with a half point.
