Golf: Fife pushed hard by West

WEST went down fighting to a strong Fife side in the opening match in this season’s Fife & Lothians Golf Associations Winter League at West Lothian. The visitors had three members of their historic Scottish Area Team title triumph on duty and they all chalked up vital points.

Aberdour ace Scott Crichton beat Graham Robertson on the last green.

Peter Latimer then got the better of Turnhouse’s Steven Armstrong and Fife looked to be cruising when they led 4-1. But wins from Lewis Bain from Turnhouse and Pumpherston pair Andrew Loch and Mark Timmins, coupled with a half from Scott Young, meant it came down to the last match. Scott Stewart-Cation, the third member of Fife’s winning team at Prestwick, just got the better of Keith Reilly to secure victory for the visitors.
