Golf: Firsts all round for Nicolson

MORTONHALL’S Greg Nicolson has made a sensational start to life as a professional golfer.

The 25-year-old joined the paid ranks on Monday then had his first hole-in-one the following day in his first competition. It came in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Golf Citizen Open at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi.

“I struck it very well and the ball went straight into the hole after one bounce,” said Nicolson of his 9-iron shot at the 168-yard sixth hole.

The big-hitter, who spent four years on a scholarship at Long Island University, was voted MVP in this season’s Edinburgh Summer League.
