North Berwick’s Catriona Matthew is in one of the starting groups for the first two rounds of the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale.

Late out this morning, the 2009 champion from Royal Lytham and St Annes was partnering the top Japanese player, Shiho Ohyama, and Norway’s world No.3, Suzann Pettersen.

Pettersen won the last of the five majors in 2013, the Evian Championship in France, and missed part of the early season due to a back injury. But she is now back to her best.

But she is now back to her best and tied for sixth in the LPGA tournament in Arkansas two weeks ago.

Tomorrow, the threesome are third out at the astonishingly early time of 6.52am.

Musselburgh’s Vikki Laing plays with two Americans, Solheim Cup player Brittany Lang and Katie Futcher.

They are last out in the second round at 3.28pm.
