GRANT FORREST is feeling in the ‘Spirit’ for an Olympic-style experience representing Scotland on the golf course this week.

The Craigielaw star is joining forces with three compatriots, including Mortonhall’s Rachael Watton, in The Spirit International, which is being held at Whispering Pines in Texas.

“It’s one of the best-run tournaments I’ve played in,” said Forrest, last year’s Scottish Amateur champion.

“All the players are staying at a sports camp which is similar to an Olympic Village idea, so it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Past Spirit champions include former women’s world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa as well as current Tour stars Brandt Snedeker, Paula Creamer and Martin Kaymer. It means Forrest and Watton are bidding to follow in some famous footsteps along with team-mates Ewan Scott and Gemma Dryburgh.

“My game is in good shape,” added Forrest, who is in his third year at the University of San Diego.

“I struggled a bit in my first couple of tournaments since returning to the States, but I then got a win and a fourth place last week, so hopefully I can keep up the form.

“I’m going straight to Hawaii from here as well, so it’s a busy time and catching up on university work will be tough. But I could think of worse places to be going!”
