The Thurlow brothers, Ali and Stuart, just made their tee time at Royal Burgess after getting stuck in traffic caused by roadworks nearby.

But, along with Andrew Ni and Bobby Gibson, the Murrayfield quartet then ran out as worthy winners after a string of impressive victories.

They opened with a 6&5 success over the hosts then beat Duddingston 8&6 before recording an 8&7 triumph over Craigmillar Park in the semi-finals.

That set up a title showdown with Ratho Park, who beat Mortonhall in the other semi-final, and Murrayfield came out on to in that by 6&5. The triumph saw Stevie Stuart bow out on a high as Murrayfield team manager, having now handed over the reins to Steve Anderson.

“It’s funny how things work out given what happened on the first day and all credit to the four lads for landing our first victory in the event,” said Stuart.

“It was great to see youth in all teams which can
only be good for Lothians golf.”
