HOSTS Longniddry made a flying start in the County Cup but there was no dream debut in the East Lothian event for Craigielaw.
Added pressure always comes with being the home team but Longniddry overcame that to beat Rhodes 8&7 over the double foursome.
Other winners on the opening night included the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, the Muirfield quartet beating Musselburgh 3&1.
They were joined in the next round by Luffness New after a 3&2 win against Tantallon.
Gullane Comrades progressed without having to strike a single blow, as did Aberlady, progressing at the expense of Dunbar and The Glen respectively.
Craigielaw entered the event for the first time following the withdrawal of Dunbar, but this is one title that will have to wait for a club that has enjoyed an incredible amount of success in its short existence, after a 5&3 defeat at the hands of Amisfield, who were joined in round two by Bass Rock and Royal Musselburgh.
