In posting a 71, he finished five shots clear of the field and helped his club claim the team honours, having become the standout product of a successful junior programme at Liberton.

In the junior event, Craigmillar Park’s Daniel Hendry had the best scratch with an 81 while Sean Gallacher (Prestonfield) won the handicap section with a net 76.

A new handicap event is being added to the Lothians Golf Association fixture list this season. The Lothians Individual Handicap Stroke-Play will be held at Kingsknowe on Sunday, September 23. It will involve two separate handicap categories – 6-14 and 15-24 – and the entry fee will be no more than £12.

The event has been added to augment established tournaments like the Lothians Championship, Lothians Boys Championship, Lothians Team Tournament and Lothians Senior Championship.

“We are trying to offer more to the normal club golfer,” said president Paul Gibson.
