A new handicap event is being added to the Lothians Golf Association fixture list this season. The Lothians Individual Handicap Stroke-Play will be held at Kingsknowe on Sunday, September 23. It will involve two separate handicap categories – 6-14 and 15-24 – and the entry fee will be no more than £12.

The event has been added to augment established tournaments like the Lothians Championship, Lothians Boys Championship, Lothians Team Tournament and Lothians Senior Championship.

“We are trying to offer more to the normal club golfer,” said president Paul Gibson.

More than 100 players took part in this year’s Links Golf Cup East Lothian – and it almost produced a local winner.

Liberton’s Scott Allison came up one point short in the 54-hole Stableford event on Scotland’s Golf Coast as he was pipped for top spot by Pyecombe’s Rob Seabrook.

Martin Slater (Craigmillar Park) finished 11th with 20th-placed Alistair Ross from Glencorse making it three local hopefuls in the top 20.

Musselburgh man Murray Forrest returned to his roots from his home in Sydney to play in this year’s event.
