“I decided to change my swing last year and it was the worst thing I could have done,” said the Turnhouse star.

“It took me six months to get it back but now I am playing pretty good again. In fact, it is pretty close to where it was when I stopped as a professional.

“It is going to have to be good for when I try and qualify for the Champions Tour in the US at the end of the year.”

Edinburgh golfer Gavin Scott has earned the chance to shoot for $1million and a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Masters.

The 62-year-old Swanston New member earned the dream opportunities after bagging his first hole-in-one in 50 years of playing golf during a round at Penina Golf Resort in Portugal.

The final takes place in Augusta during the Masters weekend next April 2019 when Scott and the other finalists will be joined by former England football star Alan Shearer.

“It’s fantastic to get my first hole-in-one and now get the chance to win $1m,” said Scott, a semi-retired chartered accountant who plays off 15.

• Masters honours Barrie Douglas

A strong field for the inaugural Barrie Douglas Scottish Junior Masters at Blairgowrie this weekend includes a number of Lothians hopefuls.

“Barrie was a true friend of amateur golf in Scotland and was passionate about developing young players,” said Scottish Golf national boys’ coach Spencer Henderson. “Members of the Foundation established in his memory quickly decided that the best way to remember Barrie was to establish a tournament bearing his name.”
