Catriona Matthew’s march to Rio for this summer’s Olympic Games has a Capital connection through her new coach.
“I have been working with Gary Nicol at Archerfield,” revealed Matthew, who is on course to join English youngster Charley Hull in Team GB in Brazil.
Edinburgh man Nicol worked with a whole host of European Tour players, including former PGA champion Andrew Oldcorn, before establishing a base at Archerfield.
His main focus there is TPEGS, a bespoke coaching company he runs with Andrew Coltart, but Matthew has been in a rich vein of form since she linked up with Nicol.
“I started seeing him towards the end of last year,” added the 46-year-old, who will make her only appearance on home soil this season in the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open at Dundonald Links in Ayrshire on July 22-24.
“We have been keeping it really simple. I am not at the stage where I am going to change my golf swing.
“We have been keeping our eye on one or two key points. It is about solidifying what I am doing.”
