NORTH BERWICK mean business in their bid to wrestle back the East Lothian Winter League title from Gullane.
The 2013 champions made it three wins out of three in this season’s campaign with a 3-2 win over local rivals Tantallon.
It leaves them locked at the top of the table with Royal Musselburgh, who also have a 100 per cent record after the same number of games.
Gullane are three points adrift but have a game in hand as those three clubs look set to battle it out for the crown.
In a keenly-fought contest, John Stewart and Torquil McInroy, the league secretary, were North Berwick’s heroes.
They clinched a 3&2 victory over Simon Holt and Shaun Gordon in style with a birdie at the difficult 16th.
The result leaves Tantallon propping up the table with no points to show from their four outings this season.
Longniddry moved out of the relegation zone with a surprisingly easy 3.5-1.5 win at Musselburgh.
A waterlogged course at Royal Musselburgh meant the league leaders missed out on their showdown with Gullane.
Before that match can be rescheduled, Royal travel to North Berwick then Gullane and North Berwick will play each other home and away on successive Sundays.
In the Second Division, Musselburgh Old recorded beat Thorntree 3-2 in the only match to survive the weather, leaving Craigielaw and Gifford in the promotion spots.
Tomorrow sees the conclusion of this season’s Lothians & Fife Golf Associations Winter League at Mortonhall.
Mid are the title favourites heading into their match against Fife while it’s East versus West in the other encounter.
