
His amazing success came in Ravelston’s club championships, with long-time member Craven winning the C division for the first time.
“John has been a member here for 46 years and is an inspiration to a lot of people at the club,” said secretary Stephen Russell.
“He does a lot of work for the seniors, particularly in regard to the North Edinburgh Seniors League.
“He still plays in that himself, picking the less hilly courses. He is very active and involved in the club.

“He’d never won a club championship before and it was quite a final. In fact, he was never up until the last three holes.”
At the other end of the age ladder, Katie Darling has also been making her mark at the Capital club.
She won the ladies’ championship last year at just 20 and was runner-up in the same event this season.
“We think John winning the C championship is a remarkable achievement while, with Katie also having some success, we are covering both ends of the age spectrum,” said her mum, Fiona.
