Stephen Gallacher is supporting a new event being launched on the back of young Scottish golfers being squeezed out of top tournaments.
The Stephen Gallacher Foundation Under-15 Closed Championships, to be held over 54 holes at Bathgate from August 4-6, are being run in conjunction with the Lothians Golf Association, Midlothian Ladies and East Lothian Ladies.
It is open to all boys and girls who are under 15 on January 1, 2015, and have a CONGU handicap. The entrants must have been born in Scotland or have a Scottish father or mother.
“We had noticed in some of the national open events there was at times a limited number of Scottish children who were getting the chance to compete,” said the foundation’s manager, Scott Knowles. “We felt that was not helping the youngsters move forward as they were not being given the opportunity to show how good they are.”
In addition to scratch and handicap prizes in the under-15 event, there will also be the same in an under-13 section. Entry is £20 and the field will be a maximum of 150.
