Stephen Gallacher had to settle for a share of the spoils in today’s foursomes at the EurAsia Cup after a topsy-turvy match in Malaysia.

The Lothians star again joined forces with Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano after their 4 and 3 fourball win as Europe took a 5-0 opening-day lead.

And they were on course to deliver another point when standing three up with eight to play. Their opponents, Japanese pair Koumei Oda and Hideto Tanihara, then won four holes out of five from the 11th to edge ahead. And it took a Gallacher birdie at the 17th to secure a half in the end.

Asia won the second session 3-2 but Europe hold a 7-3 lead heading into tomorrow’s closing singles at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club in Kuala Lumpur.

In India, Royal Burgess amateur James Ross beat Asia-Pacific’s Sinichi Mizuno 5 and 3 in his singles match this morning to edge Europe towards victory in the Bonallack Trophy.

Former Lothians champion Mark Hillson was among 25 Scots to qualify for next week’s final stage of the PGA EuroPro Tour Q-School at Frilford Heath.
