Stephen Gallacher has described raising more than £84,000 at a dinner in Edinburgh for his junior golf foundation as “game-changing money”.
The event in Prestonfield House Hotel was attended by around 400 guests, including two winning Ryder Cup captains – Bernard Gallacher and Sam Torrance. Two-time Ryder Cup player Paul Lawrie was also there to lend his support, as were Celtic captain Scott Brown and former Scotland rugby star Gavin Hastings.
The exact total raised was £84,766, the bulk of which came from a live auction conducted by another ex-Scotland rugby international, Andy Nicol. “I’m absolutely blown away with the generosity of everyone,” tweeted Gallacher. “£84k is simply game-changing money.”
The three-time European Tour winner added: “We have so many plans that we are now able to genuinely consider and implement. I am excited at the prospect of sitting down with the team at my foundation to starting making these a reality.”
