HE may be in the world’s top 50 and a Ryder Cup contender but Stephen Gallacher will never forget his roots.
The three-times European Tour winner takes a hands-on role with his Foundation whenever his schedule permits. It allowed him to be at Swanston New last Sunday to act as the official starter for the Stuart Hutchison Trophy in memory of the club’s former assistant pro who was killed in a car accident in 2009.
“Stuart’s family have been great sponsors of the Foundation and, through fund-raising events in 2013, kindly handed a cheque for £600 over to Stephen,” said Scott Knowles, the Foundation manager. “This is money that will be well used for the benefit of all children in golf.”
The event also showed the success of Gallacher’s Foundation so far as it attracted a record entry of 110. “All the children enjoyed Stephen starting them off and him giving them some tips,” added Knowles.
