Bruntsfield Links, the 2014 winners and only team other than Royal Burgess to claim the title in the last eight years, are the first team through to the semi-finals of this season’s Clarity Edinburgh Summer League.
They progressed by making home advantage count to beat Duddingston, last year’s beaten finalists, 7-2.
Stuart McLaren led the way with a four-under-par and bogey-free effort that saw him beat former Lothians champion David Miller 5&4 in the top match.
Even more impressive, though, were the figures produced by Keith MacKenzie, who had six birdies on the front nine before adding another one at the 13th as he beat Cameron Hay, a former Bruntsfield Links club champion 5&3.
Other home wins were delivered by Kevin Cattanach, David Donaldson and Mike Rolland, the latter being two-under for 14 holes.
Bruntsfield Links will now play either Turnhouse or Craigmillar in the semi-final at Swanston New on August 21.
“With both Alan Anderson and Mark Kernaghan returning from holiday, I will have to think long and hard about selection after some outstanding performances in this match,” admitted team manager Douglas Livingstone.
