Liberton teenager Kieran Cantley held his nerve to dismiss holder John Ralston from the annual Harry Lauder golf trophy at Portobello last night.

Levelling on the 17th, Cantley sank a par putt from just off the green at the last, capitalising on a couple of uncharacteristic blunders earlier by the man from Shotts.

In tomorrow’s semi-finals Cantley plays Kevin Wylie (Musselburgh Old Course) who defeated clubmate Euan Glen 3&2, while Silverknowes’ Iain Randall was a 4&3 winner over Swanson’s Mark Bogie and now faces Stef Walker (Whistle). Walker had a 3&2 win over home hope Jackie O’Donnell.
