Turnhouse title talk on ice, says ex-Racers star Hanson

Former ice hockey star Moray Hanson has helped Turnhouse get their skates on in this season’s Clarity Edinburgh Summer League.

But, despite completing a home-and-away double over defending champions Royal Burgess, he insists that title talk needs to stay on ice.

“I am absolutely delighted that the Turnhouse team have achieved a 100 per record in our matches so far,” said Hanson, a former Murrayfield/Edinburgh Racers, Fife Flyers and Great Britain netminder.

“But there is a long way to go and I don’t really think it would be appropriate to speculate too far ahead as that would be disrespectful to the other teams in the league, so let’s take one game at a time.” Backing up an earlier victory at the Barnton, Turnhouse beat Royal Burgess 5-3 in their latest meeting, with Neil Anderson leading the way with a 4&2 win over Joe Lockie.

The game of the night, though, was between Euan McIntosh and John Fraser which went all the way to the 18th, where on-form home man McIntosh made a birdie to half the match.

Duddingston, last season’s beaten finalists, bounced back from a disappointing whitewash at Kingsknowe by making home advantage count against Newbattle.

“A much-needed win,” said Alan Banks of a 6-2 triumph in which points were delivered by Gary Thomson, Paul Heggie, Craig Pirie, Alan Banks and Derrick McWilliams.
