Grange begin hockey top-flight title defence with a new look

NEW-LOOK Grange begin the defence of the Division One hockey title tomorrow.

Callum Mackenzie and Joe Waterston have left the club to begin university in England and Wales respectively.

Luke Cranney and Hamish Imrie are now plying their skills in Germany and the club’s Australian players have had to return home as their visas have expired. Incoming are Dylan Bean, Simon Naughtlin and Clemens Rusnjak as well as two former players Duncan Riddell and Robbie Shephardson.

Ed Irvine, Grange’s manager, said: “As always, we look to our youth and continue to develop individuals at National League One level.”

The opposition is Aberdeen Standard and Grange have changed the venue to Peffermill (push-off 1.00pm) to accommodate fans travelling from the north east.

Elsewhere, Chris Duncan hopes his Inverleith side can re-group ahead of another difficult Division Two clash, this time at newly-relegated Dundee Wanderers (2.00pm at Dalnacraig).

Duncan’s men lost 3-1 in their opening league game at Dunfermline Carnegie last Saturday. He said: “It will be a steep learning curve for the team but we have a long-term vision about where we want to be and how we want to get there.”
