Both were winners at last weekend’s New Zealand International Classic, and Lobban proved invincible again as he clinched his third PSA title in a row at the Southern Open in Invercargill. Malaysian top seed Ivan Yuen was beaten 11-7, 11-6, 3-11, 11-9 in the final to give the Scottish No.2 his 12th straight win. Such has been Lobban’s recent dominance that game three was the first he had lost in the last 25.

“I’m very happy to have won my biggest title to date,” he smiled after securing his ninth career victory. “It was a great tournament.”

Aitken was tipped to land her second PSA title after storming through the draw at the Matamata Open.

The 27-year-old left-hander had also beaten top seed Audrey Landers-Murphy last week, but the Kiwi delighted the home crowd by turning the tables in Sunday’s final. Game one proved crucial, and having narrrowly lost it, Aitken slumped to an 11-13, 5-11, 1-11 defeat.
