Highs and lows of motorsport helping steer Aiden Moffat towards the top

Dalkeith's Aiden Moffat believes experiencing the highs and lows of motorsport is helping him become a more mature racing driver.

Moffat recently took a phenomenal double podium in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park with two fabulous drives.

However, the 21-year-old has also learned how cruel the sport can be this season as a certain race win in the opening round at Brands Hatch was snatched away from him and his Laser Tools Mercedes as they were shunted off the track by another driver. That driver was penalised, but it cost Moffat another well-deserved triumph.

This year has also seen Aiden and his team take on a new challenge on top of their British Touring Car Championship commitments as they race in the inaugural TCR UK series with an Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Last weekend saw the series come to Knockhill in Fife but, unfortunately, mechanical issues forced him out of both races much to the disappointment of his home crowd.

This weekend Moffat heads to Thruxton – Britain’s fastest race circuit – looking to build on a great season which sees him sitting sixth in the British Touring Car Championship.

“This season has seen a real change in my approach now that I know what it takes to be a race winner,” said Moffat, who made his debut in Touring Cars aged 16.

“We know that we will always get a setback or two, so what I am doing is to maximise my chances with a lot of hard work away from the track.

“For example, I am building up a database of the cars and circuits so that we can look at what makes us quick under various conditions and type of circuit and then applying that data to the upcoming races.

“I suppose I am now much more mature having seen the highs and lows.

“For sure, I intend to maximise the highs and that involves lots of dedication and preparation. I am getting there and hopefully the results will reflect all that effort.”
