Hockey: Clarke warning as Grange meet Watsonians in top-versus-bottom clash

HIGH-FLYING Grange will not take Division One hockey strugglers Watsonians lightly tomorrow, according to playcaller Colin Clarke.

The Edinburgh pair clash at Peffermill, seeking points for different reasons. Grange are level on points at the top with defending champions Kelburne. Watsonians have the same points as bottom club Aberdeen.

Clarke expects to have a full-strength side at his disposal and said: “We played Watsonians last year in the Scottish Cup and only beat them 2-1.

“The were promoted last season so they have been playing Division One hockey this season. We know not to underestimate them.”

Watsonians top marksman Magnus Ferrier was pleased with the point they gained at Aberdeen on Sunday which lifted them off the bottom of the table.

He said: “That is a platform for us to move forward, but we know Grange will be tough.” Fourth-placed Inverleith face Edinburgh University who are in eighth position with four points, two ahead of Watsonians and Aberdeen.

Elsewhere, Kelburne are expected to dispose of Glasgow rivals Hillhead, while Clydesdale play Grove Menzieshill and Western entertain Aberdeen.
