Hockey: Edinburgh Uni aim for Cup revenge against Grange

The memory of the defeat still lingers with the students who square-up to the cup holders in the tie of the quarter-finals at Fettes tomorrow.

Edinburgh University have beaten Grange home and away in Division One this season and they would be in the top four had it not been for a points deduction caused by an early-season administrative error.

As it stands, the students are fifth in the league with 19 points from 13 games having won seven and drawn one of their 13 fixtures so far. They also have a goal difference of minus one.

Grange, in contrast, are third with 25 points gained from eight wins and a draw in their 13 games.

Last weekend saw contrasting fortunes for the clubs. Edinburgh University emerged with a 3-1 win over AAM Gordonians at Peffermill while Grange went down 4-2 to Grove Menzieshill after being level at 2-2 at the break. They have a goal difference of plus 17 and were under-strength last Saturday.

Dave Reid, Edinburgh’s assistant coach, said: “If we play to our potential it should be a close game and we could win.”

Inverleith, who top Division Two with only one defeat in 17 league games, have a home tie against Grove Menzieshill who are second in Division One.

Bromac Kelburne, the Division One pacesetters, are at home to the University of St Andrews who are third in Division Two. PSL Team Sport Clydesdale, who are seventh in Division One, host AAM Gordonians who are sixth.

Grange are also on duty on Sunday when they host second-bottom Dundee Wanderers at Fettes (2pm) in Division One.
