Hockey: Inverleith win gives CALA hope

INVERLEITH did city hockey rivals CALA Edinburgh a favour last night and boosted their own moral ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final with Grange.

A double from skipper Andrew Sinclair helped Inverleith beat relegation-threatened Hillhead 4-1 and keep the eighth-placed club on 14 points.

If CALA Edinburgh beat Clydesdale in their final league game on Saturday at Meggetland (3.30pm) then that would leave Hillhead a point behind with a game remaining against second-placed Grange to save themselves from a play-off.

Last night, the fourth-placed Edinburgh side led 2-0 at the break through John Harris after nine minutes and Lewis Gibson 21 minutes later.

But Hillhead, who had started brightly, increased their pressure on the home side and were rewarded when Graeme Campbell netted four minutes after the restart.

However, two goals in four minutes from Sinclair secured the three points to take Inverleith on to a total of 32 for the season.
