Ferrier said: “This was one of our better performances so far this season and we deserved at least a point. Chris Miller played in an unfamiliar role for us, but marshalled the defence well. It was good to see young Danny Cain scoring his first of the season and the point gives us something to build on as we continue our campaign to stay in Division One.”

Aberdeen were always ahead in a tight tussle at Countesswells, going 1-0 ahead, but talented teenager Cain netted to level for Watsonians, who currently prop up the ten-strong Division One table.

The home side scored a second but Ferrier’s late strike gives the Edinburgh side hope.

On Saturday it had looked promising for Watsonians when mid-table opponents Inverleith were rocked by an own goal after seven minutes at Peffermill.

Inverleith hit back to claim five without reply, though, with a double from John Harris and other strikes from Adam Mackenzie, Derek Salmond and Andrew Sinclair to win for the fourth time in six matches.

Elsewhere, Johnny Christie claimed a double as Kelburne collected their fifth straight victory. The Scottish internationalist scored in each half in the 5-0 home win of arch-rivals Western.

Alan Forsyth, Ben Peterson and Ed Greaves completed the scoring for the visitors, who are now in second place on goal difference with 15 points, three behind leaders Grange.
