Hockey: Stephen Dick hailed as Inverleith shine in Europe

Former Beijing Olympian Stephen Dick put in an 'outrageously good' performance in claiming eight goals in two games as Scottish champions Inverleith yesterday opened their EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Trophy bid with back-to-back wins.

The 30-year-old Perthshire schoolteacher bagged four in the 5-2 victory over Atletico Clube de Portugal and then he claimed another four in the 7-3 win over Belgian cracks Royal HC Namur in their afternoon game.

Inverleith, who claimed
the Scottish title last Sunday for the third time by beating Dundee-based Grove Menzieshill, play Belarus side HC Minsk in their final Pool A qualifier

The Capital club look set for a top-four finish and former Commonwealth Games player Adam Mackenzie, who plays outdoor for Glasgow-based Western, said: “We were 4-1 up at half-time and this was an absolutely world-class performance from Stephen Dick. He was outrageously good.

“I’ve been playing indoor hockey with Stephen for some years and I’ve never seen him play so well.”
