Edinburgh Capitals are looking to reward members of last season’s Grand Slam- winning Scottish National League side with Elite League ice hockey exposure this season.

The club want their local talent to make an impact on the top tier when action gets under way next month.

With Capitals academy player Sean Beattie, who split the last campaign between the Elite and SNL squad, and National League stalwart Sean Donaldson signing new deals, club co-owner and SNL coach Scott Neil explained: “From a SNL point of view, we want to continue towards a high performance set up for the club and increase opportunities for our players to develop good habits both on and off the ice.

“We want to establish top end conditioning and nutritional programmes that will help them make the most of their hockey potential as well as create good role models for all our players within our junior ranks.

“It’s very much a one team mentality here now in Edinburgh, from the inclusive social events organised by the club, to the great backing the Capitals fans gave the SNL boys last season, it’s something we will definitely be building on.

“Beattie is only 19 and already part of our academy programme, training and playing with the Elite League squad and with the right attitude I fully expect him to make great strides this season. Whilst at 26 Donaldson is one of our most experienced SNL players, he’s a leader and keen to help with the developmental structure we are building here. He’s a skilful player, and last season was our top points scorer in the SNL. He has the ability to play at a higher level and I would not be surprised to see him being given opportunities in the Elite League this year.”
