Edinburgh Capitals lost 4-2 at Coventry Blaze tonight.
Without injured forwards David Rutherford and Jordan Steel, who dislocated a shoulder in Wednesday’s 4-3 overtime loss to Nottingham panthers, Caps couldn’t make amends after a poor five-minute spell in the opening period saw them concede three goals.
Edinburgh’s Paul Zanette cancelled out a tenth-minute Blaze opener from former Fife Flyers forward Ned Lukacevic, before Carl Lauzon and Jordan Pietrus had Coventry 3-1 ahead after a quarter-of-an-hour.
Taylor Dickin, with a goal five minutes into the third period, raised hopes of a fightback from the visitors, but Cale Tanaka scored with 12 minutes remaining to restore Coventry’s two-goal cushion.
Capitals stay fourth in the league but Blaze moved off the bottom of the Elite League to be replaced by Edinburgh’s opponents tomorrow night, Manchester Storm.
