Edinburgh Capitals tough guy Riley Emmerson believes a positive result at second placed Sheffield Steelers in tonight’s Elite League ice hockey clash could prove crucial come the end of the season as the club battle for a play-off spot.
With Sheffield trying to chase down Braehead Clan for the league title, whilst Edinburgh sit in ninth, one point outside a play-offf place, Emmerson is under no illusions at the enormity of the task at hand, but believes confidence can be taken from the 2-2 tie at Murrayfield between the two sides earlier this month. Steelers eventually won the match in overtime, resulting in Edinburgh’s only defeat in their last four games.
“It’s a huge game for us,” said Emmerson. “We have to go in there with the mentality to play mistake-free hockey. It has to be a real greasy road game. We managed to sneak a point against them last time, even though they have a really deep squad and we’re short on bodies just now, so everybody needs to pull their weight.
“It’s a difficult game for sure, but if we can get the win it could prove crucial come the end of the season as we look to make the play-offs.”
