Isaacs looking over shoulder as pack closes

HALFWAY leader Malcolm Isaacs had the “big guns” chasing him heading into the final two rounds of the Scottish Young Pros’ Championship at West Lothian today.

Three clear after the first round, the Nairn Dunbar golfer saw his cushion cut to just two shots after a second-round 71.

That put him on one-under, with the chasing pack being led by Dunbar’s Neil Fenwick, closely followed by defending champion David Patrick.

Fenwick’s second-round 70 included three birdies in five holes from the tenth before he dropped a shot at the par-4 16th.

Former Mortonhall man Patrick, the runaway winner at the same venue 12 months ago, also signed for a 70 to sit just three shots off the pace. He reeled off ten straight pars before bagging three birdies in the last eight holes.

West Linton’s Gareth Wright, winner of the opening two events on this season’s Young Pros’ order of merit, was also still in the title hunt. He followed his opening 74 with a 71 to sit in fourth spot, two shots ahead of Dunbar’s Gordon Hillson.

Also on the 147 mark was Terry Mathieson, who had spells at King’s Acre and Dunbar before returning to his native North-East.
