Jake Wightman rules out a middle distance double in Berlin

Jake Wightman has ruled out the possibility of a double tilt at next month's European Championships in Berlin, even though he will test himself this weekend with two A-List outings in 72 hours.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, who turned 24 this week, joins late entrant Chris O’Hare in a star-studded 1500 metres at tonight’s Diamond League meeting in Monaco before taking on a strong 800m field on Sunday at the Anniversary Games in London.

However, Wightman, who could chase Tom McKean’s long-standing Scottish record over the shorter distance, admits repeating the same schedule of Gold Coast 2018 in Berlin would be a step too far. He said: “I don’t think the timetable allows it at all but I would have loved to have doubled up.”

Guy Learmonth has a late invite to face Wightman in London after injured Kyle Langford was ruled out for the season.
