Jason Easton to fight for IBO Intercontinental title

Edinburgh's Celtic super-lightweight champion Jason Easton will box Belgian Steve Jamoye for the vacant IBO Intercontinental title at Braehead Arena next month.

The 25-year-old, who won his first professional title in October, is the next name to be added to the Josh Taylor v Ohara Davies undercard in Glasgow on Saturday, July 8.

Easton has an unblemished record of nine victories since joining the paid ranks in September 2015 and victory over the Belgian No.1 would move the former Craigmillar amateur into Britain’s top ten in the rankings.

A second-round stoppage over Hungarian Zoltan Szabo at Meadowbank in March underlined Easton as a fighter destined for the top.

“It’s an absolute cracker of a fight and for a big title, one that Ricky Burns has won,” he explained. “He’s going to be a real tough opponent and he’s coming to knock me out. I’m going to have to be at the top of my game if I’m to win. But I just can’t wait to get back in there, especially after the way the last one went.

“I’ve taken so much confidence from the Szabo fight. Given the fact he’s been in with the likes of Ohara Davies, Robbie Davies Jnr and Stephen Ormond, and I managed to stop him in the second round – I think says a lot.

“I owe a lot to Josh and Cyclone Promotions for giving me this opportunity as they are the ones that have brought big shows back to Meadowbank and Scotland in general. Things have been working amazing for me as I’ve stopped my last two opponents on live TV. This is going to be my tenth fight as a professional so my first two years have really flown.”
