Lothian round-up: Grant heads for Mexico

Grant Forrest is representing Scotland in the Eisenhower Trophy

The Craigielaw star is heading to Central America along with Robert MacIntyre (Glencruitten) and Connor Syme (Drumoig) to represent Scotland in the Eisenhower Trophy in the middle of next month.

The trio will be aiming to become world team champions in Cancun from 21–24 September, having already been part of a European title success this year.

• Gullane set for fund-raiser

Players from 43 different clubs, including four in England, are heading to Gullane on Monday to play in the Babe Zaharias Scratch and Ultraplast Handicap Trophies.

A decision last year to restore to the events to a stroke-play competition has resulted in the field being oversubscribed, with 20 teams currently on the waiting list.

The competition has been held annually as a fund-raiser for cancer charities since 1963.

• Forsyth is forever ‘young’

Two-time European Tour winner Alastair Forsyth is the star attraction in next week’s Scottish Young Professionals Championship at West Lothian.

At 40, Forsyth may not exactly be classed as “young” be he qualifies for the event due to the fact he’s sitting the PGA training degree.

His title rivals in the 54-hole event, which starts on Monday, include two-time winner Paul O’Hara, as well as Duddingston duo Ross Munro and James Dick.

• Gallagher at the double

Longniddry’s Cameron Gallagher was a double winner in this season’s Stephen Gallacher Foundation Order of Merit title races.

Helped by claiming victory in the Duddingston Junior Open, he not only topped the under-18 boys’ scratch standings but also finished top of the pile in the under-15 category.

Other winners included Baberton’s Jake Edgcome (under-18 handicap) and Royal Burgess youngster Cameron Adam (under-15 handicap).
