With Czech player-coach Michal Dobron in place, the Caps’ recruitment drive ahead of September’s ice hockey kick-off appears in full swing.

Neil remained tight-lipped on the other targets’ identities but it is believed Capitals are close to wrapping up deals for a two further players.

Neil said: “We’ll have a bit of a mix this year, a combination of European and North American players which is something Michal is comfortable with.

“Michal wants a team that has a bit of everything. Last year, if anything, we were a bit too attack-minded and we’re keen to identify role players who do a lot of the dirty work that often goes unnoticed.” Speaking on the capture of Wilgosh, who after spending the last four years with the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers, comes straight out of Canadian college hockey, Neil continued: “We’ve had a good steer on him as regards to his competitiveness and tenacity which he combines with a good skill-set. We expect a quality addition who will lead by example in the way he plays the game. He was club captain both in juniors and at Prince Edward Island. He’s a very hard worker, who also has an offensive up-side, and he’s the sort of player who fits the ethos of the team we’re trying to build here.”
