Edinburgh badminton star Jillie Cooper missed out on the finals but still had reason to celebrate at the Scottish
International Championships at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old reached the semi-finals of the women’s doubles with Bothwell teenager Kirsty Gilmour and they were rewarded with the Robert
McCoig Quaich for the best Scottish performance.

On Saturday, they lost 21-19, 21-9 to Japan’s Naoko Fukuman and Kurumi Yonao and Cooper said: “That’s the fifth semi-final [defeat] in the past four years. But it has been a good Championship.”

In the finals, India’s Anand Pawar won the men’s singles and three titles went to Japan. England’s Marcus Ellis and Gabrielle White took the mixed doubles thanks to a 21-16
21-16 win over the Dutch pair of Ruud Bosch and Selena Piek.
