EDINBURGH’S Jillie Cooper claimed her third Yonex Scottish women’s doubles title while Londniddry’s Paul Van Rietvelde triumphed in the men’s doubles at the National Badminton Championships at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth.

Cooper repeated her 2009 win alongside Glasgow’s Imogen Bankier with a 21-9, 21-15 win over Glasgow’s Linda Sloan and Chinese-born Scot Rita Yuan Gao.

Van Rietvelde helped cause the only minor shock of the championships. Partnering Watson Briggs, the No. 2 seeds beat the top seeded defending champions, Jamie Neill (Hamilton) and Keith Turnbull (Larkhall) 21-18 21-14.

The singles titles went to the two favourites in Glasgow’s Kieran Merrilees and Bothwell 18-year-old Kirsty Gilmour.
