Scottish Volleyball is looking to build on the success of the beach game by staging winter tournaments on Portobello beach.
Scotland women’s team reached the fourth round of the CEV Continental Cup – an Olympic qualifier – in Greece this year against all the odds.
The national governing body has now set up beach programmes with input from Great Britain Olympic indoor captain Lynne Beattie and beach partner Mel Coutts.
Beattie has only taken up the beach game but, as east development officer for the sport, has quickly seen the benefits.
A successful Scottish Summer Tour has been running for several years now with tournaments throughout the country and the first winter competition will take place at Portobello on November 15. It is an open entry with teams paying £10. Competitions will also be held on November 22 and 29.
