Edinburgh’s rising badminton stars are celebrating after winning the Scottish Primary Schools Inter-Area Championships at Ravenscraig Sports Centre.

The Capital youngsters opened with a fine 3-2 win against favourites Glasgow and followed up with 4-1 success against North East. In their next match they whitewashed a very strong Borders team 5-0.

Having already played against the three strongest teams, it was a matter of holding concentration and nerve to beat both Mid East Lothian and Lanark 4-1, Fife 5-1 and finally Ayrshire 4-1.

Savouring the triumph in our photograph are, back row, team manager Bob Mackay and coach Gayle Moffat; middle row, Jamie Richmond (Watson’s), Faiz Irfan (Gylemuir), Sam Raeburn (Holy Cross), Hamish McCalliser and Joseph Carlyle (both Bruntsfield). In front are Ellie Veitch (Watson’s), Rachel Maclean and Zazou Wycherley (both Bruntsfield), Jennifer Menzies (Juniper Green) and Eilidh McCallister (Bruntsfield).
