City of Edinburgh make volleyball's Final Four

City of Edinburgh women booked their place in the Final Four of the John Syer Volleyball Grand Prix after a day of mixed fortunes in Laurencekirk.

City looked set for a straight sets victory over holders Su Ragazzi in their opening match when they took the first set 25-18 and held a commanding 17-7 lead in the second. But Ragazzi came back to claw back the deficit with some tough serving, putting pressure on City’s passing game. They edged the second set 28-26 to force a deciding set which they won 15-12.

City faced hosts Volleyball Aberdeen shortly afterwards and showed great character to win through 25-18, 25-16.

It booked their semi-final place in St Andrews in February and means they can now turn their attentions to the league where they lead the SVL Premier by three points from Su Ragazzi.

City head back to the north-east on Saturday where the face Volleyball Aberdeen on Saturday.in their final league match before Christmas, going for their seventh straight win in the SVL Premier.
