ABERDEEN’S Tom Brewster no longer calls the shots, but he can still complete a hat-trick of Edinburgh International curling titles at Murrayfield Ice Rink this weekend

Double world champion David Murdoch has replaced him as skip, but Brewster remains an important part of Britain’s Olympic team, which opens its Edinburgh campaign against Sweden’s Fredrik Nyman at 8.30 tomorrow morning.

Home hopes are carried by Colin Campbell, playing lead for David Edwards’ rink, and Murrayfield skip John Hamilton. Campbell has been drawn in a highly-competitive Section B with world junior champion Kyle Smith and the Scottish Tour’s form player Ross McCleary, although Campbell faces Latvian Ritvars Gulbis first.

Hamilton is in Group C with leading Scots Logan Gray and Grant Hardie, but he too starts against foreign opposition when he plays Hungary’s Gabor Ezsol.

Murrayfield junior Bruce Mouat will be elsewhere this weekend as he and club-mate Gina Aitken take part in the Under-21 Slam in Inverness, which also runs from Friday to Sunday.
