Capital curler Bruce Mouat improved his chances of reaching next month’s finals after enjoying back-to-back wins at the Scottish Championship qualifiers in Dumfries.
The talented junior responded positively to Thursday night’s opening defeat by trouncing Aberdeen’s David Edwards 10-4 before returning later to score an even more convincing 9-1 victory over Graham Shedden.
Mouat will play another three matches this weekend with the top five teams in both sections booking places at next month’s finals in Perth.
Meanwhile, at the Glynhill International in Glasgow, Edinburgh junior Gina Aitken twice squandered winning positions in her opening two matches. She led Russian Olga Zharkova 4-3 before losing 5-4, but her afternoon defeat to Swiss skip Michele Jaggi was harder to bear as she conceded five stones at the last end to go down 8-5.
