Curling: Gina back on winning trail in Perth

Capital curler Gina Aitken bounced back from losing her unbeaten record to start another winning run at the Scottish Championships in Perth.

Aitken’s sequence of four straight victories was ended by Hannah Fleming on Tuesday evening, but she responded positively, outplaying Katie Murray 9-3 after storming into an early 5-0 lead. Aitken remains on course for a place in Sunday’s final, and her prospects were boosted when tournament favourite Eve Muirhead surprisingly lost 5-3 to Hazel Smith.

In the men’s competition, Murrayfield’s Bruce Mouat made a sluggish start against defending champion Ewan MacDonald, who eventually prevailed 9-7, but Mouat is still well-placed after three wins out of five so far.
