GINA AITKEN’S unbeaten run finally ended yesterday at the World Junior Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, but her fellow Edinburgh curler Bruce Mouat continued his winning ways.

Having already won her first four round-robin matches, Aitken was tipped to make it five out of five against Russia’s Evgeniya Demkina, but a 5-2 deficit left the Scots too much to do and an excellent final delivery from Uliana Vasilyeva sealed a 7-5 victory for Demkina’s team.

Mouat dominated Norwegian skip Gaute Nepstad from the start, counting four stones at the first end on his way to beating the 2014 bronze medallist 9-2. Like Aitken, Mouat looks well-placed to secure a play-off spot after four wins out of five so far.
