Capital squash player Doug Kempsell admits he needs a long rest after ending a punishing season with a narrow first-round defeat at the Welsh Open in Cardiff.
The 24-year-old played all five matches as Scotland finished fourth at the European Team Championship in Helsinki, and Kempsell then reached last week’s Sekisui Open quarter-finals in Switzerland.
He was seeded to beat Kuwait’s Ammar Altamimi in Cardiff, but despite sharing the first two games, he eventually lost a hard-fought encounter 10-12, 11-8, 8-11, 10-12.
“It was a tight four games, but I just wasn’t happy with my performance overall,” he said with typical honesty.
“I’m taking about a month off now, which will be good, but I’m hoping I might sneak up a place or two (from No.92) in next week’s new world rankings.”
