Murrayfield curler Bruce Mouat will represent Scotland at next month’s World Juniors in Copenhagen following an emphatic victory in yesterday’s Scottish Junior Championship final in Aberdeen.
The 21-year-old Napier student defended his 2015 title in style, winning all eight matches at Curl Aberdeen before defeating Lockerbie’s surprise finalist Cameron McNay 8-3. Mouat led 4-0 early on, and a three at the seventh end put the result beyond doubt. He is now determined to improve on the world bronze medal he claimed in Tallinn last year.
Dumfries skip Sophie Jackson will join Mouat in Copenhagen after edging Stirling’s Katie Murray 7-5 in yesterday’s girls’ final, but Murrayfield’s Karina Aitken did herself proud as she battled to retain the title won last year by her big sister Gina.
Karina managed four wins from seven round-robin games and then pipped Lesley Young 8-7 in a tie-breaker, but her brave challenge ended when she lost 7-6 to Murray in the semis.
