Edinburgh’s Euan Burton hit form to claim the Under-100kg title at the European Cup in Belgrade last night.
The European and World judo medallist added another title to his name by beating Slovakian Miroslav Dzur in the final to take the gold medal. Burton has been concentrating on coaching since his disappointment at London 2012 but showed he still has what it takes by winning all four of his contests in Serbia.
He beat Goran Prgonjic from the host nation and Andraz Spilar from Slovenia in his opening pool and then reached the final clash with Dzur with a win over another Serbian, Stefan Jurisic.
“Thanks everyone for the messages of congratulations. Don’t know if being second oldest Euro Cup winning male ever is good or a sign to stop!” Burton, 34, later tweeted.
